Beijing, China
April 9th - Beijing colleagues partnered with the Beijing Tree Planting Committed to plant tree saplings in the Miyun District. Volunteers will also continue to provide care for the trees after they are planted to ensure proper growth.
Istanbul, Turkey
April 11th - The volunteers from the Turkish office participated in their first Global Care Day and partnered with Bogazici Hayvanat Bahcesi ve Botanik Parkı (Zoo & Botanic Park) to plant flowers and do some general cleaning.
Taipei, Taiwan
April 17th - Employees in Taipei, Taiwan focused on improving the environment by planting flowers and trees at schools, parks and private residences in the Wehn Shan District. These efforts will help reduce air pollution and global warmth.
Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam
April 18th - Employees and volunteers spent time with the residents of the Thanh Loc Center, where more than 300 elderly and disabled people live. The Center houses residents who have no other family members to care for them.
Pasig, Philippines
April 18th - Volunteers participated in the Earth Day Run 2010 event on Saturday, April 18, 2010, which is sponsored by the National Geographic Channel. Proceeds from the race will go to "Design against the Element," is a global design contest that aims to find a solution to problems due to climate change.
Jakarta, Indonesia
April 23rd - Community Champions in Jakarta educated students at the Trinity School about recycling. Volunteers taught students how they can help the environment by recycling plastic and other materials.
Bayport Underwood, Pasadena, Texas
April 24th - The activity in the Bayport area included employees working to beautify the Armand Bayou Nature Center’s LyondellBasell Living Lab. The living lab is used by schools nearly every week to educate students on nature and the environment. Volunteers worked in the main entrance, the parking lot and other areas by performing general landscaping (trimming trees, pruning bushes, planting flowers, debris removal, fence repair and spreading gravel.
Colonel's Island, Georgia
April 24th - Employees helped commemorate the 100-year anniversary of the start of the Jacksonville-based Flavors and Fragrances business by planting more than 100 trees at the North Glynn Park in Brunswick, Georgia. The type of tree selected for this event is the longleaf pine due to its scarcity. Other indigenous trees were also planted to enhance the park’s appearance.
Alvin, Texas
April 24th - Volunteers from our Chocolate Bayou facility in Alvin, Texas volunteered with the city of Liverpool by providing landscaping services at the grounds of the new city hall. Tasks included adding curbing to the parking lot and inputting plants and trees.
Pindamonhangaba, Brazil
April 24th - The volunteers from Pindamonhangaba, Brazil site partnered with Nursery School Maria Benedita Cabral San Martin, which serves 108 children in the Feital community, where a LyondellBasell plant is located. Volunteers painted the crèche and reforms of the sun and install a rain protection awning. The goal of the project was to improve the condition of the environment for children.
Lansing, Michigan
April 24th - Haven House provides emergency housing and support services for one- and two-parent families with children. Volunteers cleaned, provided yard work and conducted other small projects around the facility.
Morris, Illinois
April 24th - The Morris facility partnered with the Northern Illinois Food Bank “We Care” program. Volunteers collected food and monetary donations to help stock the shelves of the pantry.
Milan, Italy
April 24th - Opera S. Francesco per i Poveri is an organization supporting disadvantaged people in Milan by providing them with clothes, medicine and other necessities. Volunteers collected items to be distributed to the people associated with the organization.
Victoria, Texas
April 24th - Perpetual Help Home is a housing program that helps women and their children during hardship, such as substance abuse, homelessness, domestic violence or release from incarceration. Volunteers helped beautify the facility by replacing a privacy fence, replacing bedroom floors, performing landscaping and providing electrical wiring.
Rotterdam, The Netherlands
April 24th - Volunteers conducted a major overhaul of the garden at Proefpark de Punt, a large, unexplored area in Rotterdam. Employees worked with residents in the neighborhood to clean up old leaves, spade flower fields, define the footpaths, repair the picnic tables and paint the playground and the chicken shed.
Brindisi, Italy
April 24th - The Brindisi site partnered with the Parrocchia San Nicola Senior Community Center. This project provided the members of the center with a day of festivities and reinforce our commitment to social responsibility in the community.
Fos-sur-Mer, France
April 24th - Volunteers at Fos Caban provided care for a house that has been inherited by the La Chrysalide Martigues Golfe de Fos, a facility for handicapped adults and children. The house was in need of light repair, landscaping and cleanup. Volunteers worked with La Chrysalide educators to restore the home, in preparation for sale.
Münchsmünster, Germany
April 24th - Appel Seitz Foundation supports and improves the cultural and social lives of those in the Schwaig community, mainly in the area of senior and youth care. Volunteers provided landscaping and painting services to help beautify the property.
Bayport Underwood, Pasadena, Texas
April 24th - Volunteers from the Equistar Pipeline helped beautify North Pointe Elementary School, which is located in proximity to two company pipelines. Volunteers landscaped, created a butterfly garden, planted trees, leveled the grade around the playground equipment and put down mulch.
Mansfield, Texas
April 24th - The Living Word Outreach Center is non-profit organization in Mansfield, Texas that assists local families in need by providing food and other services. Employees at the Mansfield Facility collected canned food to donate to the Living Word Outreach Center. On April 24, volunteers helped sort and stock the shelves at the Outreach Center for future distribution to the community.
Berre, France
April 24th - In partnership with the Aymeric Laprun, Environment Team Municipality, Berre volunteers restored cleanliness at Berre Lake and preserved a bird habitat in Berre and Rognac Towns. During the afternoon, selected Berre volunteers (divers and support) worked under the sea in Calanque de l’Estaque. This effort will made a difference in the community by providing clean, environmentally areas.
La Porte, Texas
April 24th - Community Champions in La Porte, Texas cleared out existing rest areas and established new rest areas along the Monument Walking Trail at the at the San Jacinto State Park. An outdoor classroom was constructed for guided tours at the site.
Edison & Newark, New Jersey
April 24th - Employees at the Edison & Newark locations helped the YMCA Oakcrest location’s Family Swim Club prepare for the summer. Volunteers performed landscaping, cleaning, equipment set-up and other facility beautification projects.
Fairport Harbor, Ohio
April 24th - Employees at the Fairport Harbor site helped preserve the historic Fairport Harbor Marine Museum/Lighthouse grounds. The Fairport Harbor Historical Society preserves this landmark, provides education on local marine history and instills pride in the small village of Fairport Harbor.
Seoul, Korea
April 24th - Employees from Seoul, Korea and their family and friends cleaned up the area at the popular mountain site, Dong Myung. The mountain is considered a very precious asset to the local residents of Seoul.
Jacksonville, Florida
April 24th - Volunteers in Jacksonville, Florida painted rooms, constructed cork boards and storage areas, performed landscaping, painting and general maintenance for the NFL youth Education Town Center (Girls & Boys Club). The center focuses on the academic, social and personal achievement of the area’s youth.
Newtown Square, Pennsylvania
April 24th - Volunteers from the Newtown Square, Pennsylvania site participated in building Freedom Playground in Havertown, PA. This is a handicap accessible public park that will cater to all children regardless of their capabilities.
Channelview, Texas
Project #1. April 24th - In this project, volunteers cleaned up the litter on Wallisville Road toward the Rio Villa development, which is between LyondellBasell’s Channelview North and Channelview South facilities.
Project #2. April 24th - At Sheldon Elementary, volunteers from the Channelview Site constructed three garden boxes in which students will plant fruits, vegetables and flowers. These garden boxes will give students a hands-on learning opportunity to develop their science skills. The gardens will also beautify the grounds and improve the local environment.
Project #3. April 24th - At Crenshaw Elementary, volunteers from the Channelview site constructed a small garden of fruits and vegetables and a butterfly garden. This event helped promote education about science and nature for the students.
Project #4. April 24th - The Channelview complex set aside a special project for the children of LyondellBasell employees to plant and decorate flower pots which were given to local senior residents.
Project #5. April 24th - Volunteers performed home repairs, painted and performed general landscaping duties for two senior citizen residents qualified under the Rebuilding Together program.
Wesseling, Germany
Project #1. April 24th - Volunteers cleaned the Rhine riverside by collecting plastics from the river and recycling them, thereby helping to improve the environment.
Project #2. April 24th - Volunteers painted the interior rooms of the Evangelisches Jugendzentrum JoJo Frechen, in Frechen, Germany.
Bayport Choate, Pasadena, Texas
Project #1. April 24th - Volunteers planted 15 – 20 trees in the City of Shoreacres community that were destroyed by Hurricane Ike. Employees also built several park benches in the Shoreacres Community Park.
Project #2. April 24th - Employees at the Bayport Choate facility worked with Bayshore Elementary School to beautify its new location after being forced to move due to Hurricane Ike. Volunteers helped enhance the grounds by moving the school’s pergola from the old location to the new one, plant flowerbeds and enhance an outdoor classroom setting for the school.
Clinton, Iowa
April 24th - Volunteers cleaned up Camanche Community School grounds, paint as needed and complete minor repairs to buildings.
Jackson, Tennessee
April 24th - Volunteers installed a play set and mulch at the Care Center of Jackson, which is a shelter for abused women and children in Jackson-Madison County.
Bayreuth, Germany
April 24th - For this project, volunteers provided assistance at DKMS Deutsche Knochenmarkspenderdatei gemeinnuetzige Gesellschaft. This is a non-profit organization that gathers volunteers to help with the typification of stem cells used in bone marrow transplants. Employees helped in the Stem cell classification and registration.
Tuscola, Illinois
Project #1: April 24th - Employees collected donations of food and money for the SAM (Social Action Ministry) food pantry. SAM is a ministry of TUMC that serves families all over Tuscola. Patrons of the food pantry receive a supply of food appropriate to the number of persons in their home.
Project #2: April 24th - This project put employee volunteers together with Prairie View Middle School to help the school reclaim an overgrown piece of property. Volunteers provided basic landscaping services.
Kaohsiung, Taiwan
April 24th - Employees in Kaohsiung made repairs to the boardwalk and removed debris at the Niao Song Wetland Park. This park contains 32 species of birds, 121 species of plants, more than 70 species of insects, and many species of reptiles. Many students came to the wetland for ecology education, and this event helped with the upkeep of the park.
Corpus Christi, Texas
April 24th - Corpus Christi employees helped beautify ARK, a local children’s shelter. Volunteers provided basic landscaping services, including preparing a vegetable garden and making repairs to the gymnasium.
Houston, Texas
April 24th - This event brought employees together with the Hermann Park Conservancy, an organization dedicated to the stewardship and improvement of Hermann Park – one of the most picturesque areas of Houston. Volunteers removed weeds, removed litter, provided basic landscaping services, painted park benches and repaired the roof of the pavilion.
Westlake, Louisiana
April 24th - The employees from Westlake, Louisiana partnered with TS Cooley Elementary School to help beautify the school. Volunteers painted student pick up areas with stenciled numbers on slab and posts, repainted caution lines, added tether ball areas, designed and installed a new planting area, performed general cleanup of the existing flower beds, fence line and yard, and installed a new bench in the courtyard area.
Dubai, UAE
April 24th - Volunteers in Dubai arranged a party with music, food and educational materials to uplift the children at the Senses Center. The facility provides care for orphans and disabled children. Employees also made a personal donation to the center and offered support throughout the year.
Botlek and Maasvlatke, The Netherlands
April 24th - Volunteers from both Botlek and Maasvlatke partnered with Wellant College, a regional school for vocational education. Employees cleaned and painted two large animal sheds/shelters and made other minor repairs.
São Paulo , Brazil
April 24th - Volunteers from LyondellBasell’s Sao Paulo office split into two groups. The first group took children to the Portuguese Language Museum. The second group stayed at the Analia Franco quarters to paint, clean and perform light carpentry.
Houston Refinery
Project #1: April 24th - Volunteers from the Houston Refinery worked on a variety of small repairs needed at Sarah’s House Mission, an emergency shelter that provides housing, meals, clothing and other basic necessities to homeless women and children in need. Daily goals are to assist in providing these families with stability, education, life-skills to improve employment opportunities and achieve self sufficiency.
Project #2: April 24th - The Galena Park Little League in Galena Park, Texas is a non-profit organization dedicated to teaching children about baseball in a safe and clean environment. Volunteers rebuilt the organization’s concession stand, painted benches, fixed dugouts, fertilized the field and performed other small repairs.
Project #3: April 24th - In this project, volunteers provided some TLC for the Oak Meadows Park by painting park equipment, trimming trees, refurbishing a volleyball sandpit, repainting a basketball court and making a few minor carpentry repairs.
Milton Keynes, United Kingdom
April 24th - Volunteers cleaned and cleared overgrown footpaths and repaired canal bridge. As a result of this project, a substantial area of footpath was cleared, making the goal of restoration of the area and the use of the nature reserve another step closer to reality for the Buckingham Canal Society.
Tarragona/Barcelona, Spain
April 24th - Volunteers from the Tarragona site and colleagues from the Barcelona office helped beautify an area in the Constanti village, which is located near Tarragona. Volunteers planted trees and provided other landscaping services.
Cincinnati, Ohio
April 24th - Volunteers from our Cincinnati facility installed fencing, cleaned storage buildings and landscaped trails at the Circle Tail in Pleasant Plain, Ohio. They also assembled play sets, removed old fencing, and landscaped Armco Park.
Bayport Polyolefins, Pasadena, Texas
April 24th - For Global Care Day 2010, Bayport Polyolefins partnered with Rebuilding Together, a network of more than 200 affiliates that provides free rehabilitation and critical repairs to the homes of low-income Americans. Volunteers completed a prime and paint job on the entire house, laid a sidewalk, reinforced the trim on the house and windows, painted an entryway and a bench, performed electrical work, installed a new door and provided landscaping for the front and back yards.
Moerdijk, The Netherlands
April 24th - The employees from the Moerdijk facility repaired doors, gates, tables and painted gates for the scouting Zevenbergen. The volunteers also fixed the electricity and install gravel around the parking place, and painted the parking lot.
Ferrara, Italy
April 24th - The Ferrara Global Care Day event took place in the city main park at the Kite Festival. LyondellBasell employees constructed kites with polypropylene film produced early in the morning in our labs and gave them to the children who come to the park later. Also, volunteers constructed a bicycle repair stand and donated training aids to an organization that cares for autistic children.
Bay City, Texas
April 24th - Volunteers from LyondellBasell’s Matagorda site painted a large game room and performed tree trimming at the Boys and Girls Club of Bay City.
Mumbai, India
May 1st - Down To Earth (DTE) is a non-profit organization that engages with children, youth and women from humble backgrounds. They facilitate educational, sports, drama, life skills and livelihood programs that enable individuals and communities to expand their potential. Our Mumbai, India office team spent time with senior citizens and children in the community.
Hong Kong, China
May 8th - Volunteers organized a carnival event for children at the Hong Chi Pinehill No.2 school, which provides services to the mentally disabled. The event included lots of games and other activities to promote interaction among the children and help them feel cared for.
