Message from Morris Gelb

Today, at a public park in Germany, children are laughing and playing on brand new playground equipment that once was only a dream. Meanwhile, seniors in Brunswick, Georgia, are enjoying a new bird sanctuary at their local senior center. Still others around the world are enjoying newly planted flowers and trees in their neighborhoods and parks. Bicyclists are enjoying safer paths. Families are enjoying picnics on new and refurbished tables.

All of these improvements and more – 59 projects in all – are the result of LyondellBasell’s ninth annual Global Care Day held on April 26, 2008.

From Wesseling to Wilmington, Milan to Matagorda, and in LyondellBasell communities around the world in twelve countries, more than 3,000 employees, contractors, families and friends joined together for the company’s annual Global Care Day community service activity.

Global Care Day is a company initiative challenging employees at each of LyondellBasell's worldwide locations to simultaneously participate in community service above and beyond our ongoing community involvement activities. This year’s projects targeted environmental enhancement and community sustainability. Activities ranged from landscaping and habitat development to carpentry and maintenance at children’s or seniors centers to painting and cleaning at schools.

Global Care Day is a wonderful opportunity for our employees to become personally and directly involved in our communities. Our objective is simple: to make a difference in the communities where we operate. We want to make each community a little better because we were there. Equally important, our employees and their families have a better understanding of their community as a result of this involvement. In the same manner, we hope that our communities get to know our people a little better through these interactions. Volunteering works to make life better for everyone. The time given is invaluable and strengthens our communities, building relationships, improving the lives of our neighbors and providing a good example for others.

Sincerely,
